Elsa-Louise Manceaux: Voice Notes

In the exhibition Voice Notes, artist Elsa-Louise Manceaux expands the boundaries of painting by intertwining it with voice, text, typography, moving image and sound. In an installation of radio-paintings, a term used by Manceaux to describe canvases animated by audio and text, the artist constructs a narrative addressing long-distance relationships. Through this process of editing, she transforms voice notes, fragments of books from the Fundación Jumex Library and radio recordings into a space of listening and visuality.

The project explores distance—physical, emotional, and conceptual—and time as both a pictorial principle and a defining condition of contemporary communication. Between the informative and the affective, the public and the private, the online and the offline, Manceaux asks: Can painting function as a medium of connection, a form of social network that exists in the extended time of listening and memory?

Fundación Jumex Library, which has more than nine thousand art books and is located in Ecatepec, is part of Manceaux’s initial research for the project and will be the venue for a performance to be held in November, 2025.
