For over two decades, Teresa Margolles has created powerful works that confront the aftermath of violence in Latin America. Trained in forensic medicine, she uses materials directly linked to death—bloodstained cloths, shattered glass, or surgical threads—to expose the social impact of poverty, corruption, and organized crime. Her minimalist, conceptual installations bring hidden tragedies into public view, transforming personal loss into collective memory. Margolles challenges institutions to confront the human cost of systemic violence. In Los Otros, she invites Latin American migrants in Berlin to embroider on a bloodstained cloth as an act of mourning and collective testimony. The act transforms embroidery into a gesture of resistance and a shared memory of pain.
