Do Ho Suh’s Specimen works are sculptural explorations of the idea of home in a nomadic, global society. Made of polyester fabric, the works in this series are 1:1 replicas of domestic objects, such as appliances and fixtures, from the artist’s past and current living spaces and studios. Through the shapes, lines, and volume of the fabric, Suh explores the notion of memory. Fuse Boxes, London Studio, New York Home, Studio & Corridor features four fuse boxes from Suh’s homes and studios each replicated in a color corresponding to the space to which it belongs. By isolating these seemingly mundane objects, Suh encourages viewers to focus in on the intricate details of their surroundings and reflect on one’s frequent and tactile relationship with these forms.
